I really hate these so called scientific studies. Lets look at how they collected their data: the women rated their mates attractiveness, and then how often they were attracted to other men. I presume that the researchers noticed a trend - women who were less attracted to their mates were more likely to cheat. Isn't this pretty much a no-brainer? But this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with evolution. The whole "improving the species" thing doesn't wash because if she were that determined for a high quality mate, she wouldn't have settled for the less attractive husband. I think its much more likely that women cheat because their mates aren't providing something else they think they need - attention, emotional support, whatever. And lets not forget that some people are just very insecure and derive their self-worth from a number of sexual partners.
I think the people cheating all comes down to a decision they've made - there are always an excuse you can make to do anything you want including just for excitment. I agree this is a bullshit thesis.
