I do love this fic. It's a perfect balance of setting up and unfamiliar world (at least to us modern lay people) and the story itself. I don't feel lost or confused at all -- it makes me want to drag out my Rome DVDs again. :)
There are probably a few historical inaccuracies in there, but I'm doing my best. I was worried about the research being over-the-top and irritating, so I'm really glad it's working :)
ROME. I need to watch that! Doesn't it have Simon Woods in it? I loved him in Pride and Prejudice.
IT DOES. He plays the grown up Caesar Augustus. It also has Kevin McKidd, Indira Varma, and James Purefoy. It's one of my favorite TV shows and it definitely has the same feel.
Other people have said my thoughts about how well you've translated their lives from modern to ancient but what I truly love is how you broke down that barrier between them - I can see them starting to merge together. Awesome sauce, Shock! Seriously nice way to bring them together - not completely yet but I can see them threads.
