Someone who's actually quite good ie Momus did this with his album Stars Forever. Not that I've ever heard it or owt.

Hmm. I find it hard to respect that kind of decision - surely it's the very definition of selling out, literally.

I think in the case of Momus he had some fairly hefty legal bills and needed the cash, so he came up with a novel way of earning it. I think if this was the norm then I might find it easier to object, but I quite like these one-off experiments. But then I don't have any qualms as such about selling out so long as you get a top tune at the end of the day, and there are loads of songs written to order eg for soundtracks, for other artists etc that are top tunes.

I would just be suspicious of the quality and honesty of a song which had been written to order.

I want a song about me!

Though I think a fiver is a bit much. I'll start the bidding at a pint of Carling.

Done. I'll write and record it... sometime, and let you hear it... somehow.
