Boris the Spider is great! Maybe the anti-porn filter has something to do with why you can't read some journals, har har har :-)

Re: no carbs: Indeed, and it would be really funny if people started wising up to this no-carb sham just as every company is busy showing off it's low carb versions of it's product. It's really stupid here. No crust pizza, no bread sandwiches...what the hell is this food?

I have listened to Boris numerous times, and skipped all the other songs! thesubtleknife June 30 2004, 00:08:08 UTC
Ooooo, you guys have dirtier minds than I thought ;) Though your explanation comforts me. It means that the computer is working as it should, as opposed to me just not being able to operate the system properly. My friends page won't even open! Why?? I'd love to comment on your journal too except I can't read it. :( Send me an update. If the Germany internet connection works better than this I will laugh.

It's not food. It's pure evil.

BORIS HEAVY ROCKS!

Well, in all seriousness, I have a feeling that "porn" filters filter out a lot more than porn. I think I'll send you an email sometime. Basically: I work in a physics lab, sometimes it's boring, and sometimes cool things happen, like getting chemicals spilled on me, and getting paid :-)

Sighted today: Burrito with no tortilla, just a bunch of stuff dumped in a bowl. Yay!

Your sighting was hilarious, by the way. thesubtleknife July 20 2004, 22:21:20 UTC
Yeah, you were dead-on about the porn filters. It was censoring anyone who had some swear words associated with sex on their pages. And whoops, you know those profane college students. I was surprised my own page wasn't censored. I am now the proud parent of an iBook though :) so no more watchful overprotective censor guardian for me!!

Yeah, tell me more about the physics lab! I so rarely get a chance to check lj these days. Which is a shame, because there's an abundance of quality summer writing. I wonder if the Germans have weird diet trends... the all-sausage, all-the-time diet?

I think Sarah's friends thought I was crazy because I was laughing so hard I was crying and they were staring blankly at the TV screen.

How's the not-relaxing summer going? ;)

Oh, oh, look, Autechre was mentioned, now I have to respond. I actually bought a couple of their CDs in Borders myself... but Borders carries a pretty big variety of stuff; I think you just tend to have trouble if you look for something that's obscure in its own genre, or is a very obscure genre, or something like that. And I've totally lost track of what's mainstream anymore. Radiohead's mainstream, right? And so are the White Stripes, ne? Now what about Sigur Rós or Modest Mouse or (insert widely known underground hip hop artist here)? I'm so confused. I'm not down with the scene! What will I do with my identity?! I know... I'll restore it with some LOW-CARB PASTA! It's made with SOY for only 5 GRAMS OF NET CARBS PER SERVING! SOY MAKES YOU STRONG! STRENGTH CRUSHES ENEMIES! SOY! Oh, wait, never mind, it's just something else that's trendy, profitable and ineffective. Shoot me now. Some of these products most definitely fall under the category of crimes against cuisine ( ... )

Huh, I never *actually* responded to this. Look, I'm using asterisks. thesubtleknife July 20 2004, 22:01:11 UTC
Yeah, to be in with the scene I think you have to wear gloves with the fingers cut off. Or something. Borders is my new favorite music store :) Kerry-tested, elitist-approved. Radiohead is mainstreamed in that way where most people don't understand it, but they think they should because it's "art". I would fall under this category.

What kills me about the carb obsession is it's supposedly healthy, according to Atkins, to have a greasy, cheese-smothered pizza as long as there's relatively little crust. I mean, come on, people. I like my soy though. Just not in place of, say, a hamburger! Soy is meant to be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.

Can't say about the entertainment factor, but I think it must have something to do with me having a bit of time on my hands. Which makes me wonder about "spare time." Is any of it really spare? Why do I think of it as on the side, and not quite as valuable? If anything, it's more valuable ( ... )

fyi, borders has a crazy ecclectic setup when it comes to music. i've seen shit there that the real record stores don't have, and purchased accordingly. also, we own cannibal the musical and it is a good film. "you lookin' at my EYE?!"

Speaking of crazy eclectic set-ups... thesubtleknife July 20 2004, 22:07:50 UTC
If you or Gina gets a call at the Con from the 858 area code, it's probably me :)

That part in Cannibal where the villain keeps getting back up was the worst (i.e. best) part ever. I thought I was going to die. Shortness of breath, accelerated heartbeat, chest pain. All signs of hysterical uncontrolled laughter.

Kare, the internet is being dumb!! I´m at this hotel, right? and can´t get onto aol because "cookies has been disabled". For the same reason I can´t even log into my livejournal to update. What a trip. So I don´t know when I´ll next get e-mail, because I just moved into my dorm and there seems to be a bit of incompetence in Internet connections. And there are like no e-cafes in Goettingen! I haven´t seen your most, most recent e-mail therefore... and the service here is like 2.50 per half hour. WTF. All in all it´s been a crazy experience. Yesterday I asked this guy at the bus stop how much the fare was, and he started telling me his life story and how his family had had their house burned down in the war, but he was working and fighting the forces of darkness, and hating, above all, Hitler and George Bush... People alternate between being extremely, surprisingly nice and incredibly cruel. Objects are usually situated in places that will kill you if you aren´t paying attention, most people are prejudiced against Asians, and peanut ( ... )
