i have twenty-seven seven-year-olds under my daily care. i teach them about fractions using fruit and fables using paper pig puppets. i want them to learn to enjoy reading. i entice them to memorize their difficult spelling words with sweets. i couldn't do my job without a sense of humor.

I saw the Pope by accident yesterday. My weekend guests were touring the Vatican Museums and I was waiting for them in Saint Peter's Piazza. Thousands of people were there listening to a group of school children sing Christian Pop songs. Huge speakers and video screens had been set up. i think you're either a romantic or you're not. it's all or nothing. it's not something you can fake because its innate to how you decide to live your life. you can't pretend to live a way you actually don't.

Everyday in Rome feels like a kind of production, as if it was orchestrated years ago. Cars and vespas start and stop at all of the prearranged times. Shops, businesses, and restaurants open and close and then open again at the proper times. I'm glad October is finally here.

As of late...

I've been charmed by Florida's football frenzy.
I've been mixing a lot of drinks.
I've been traveling nearly every weekend.
I've been watching lots of CNN.
I've been reading less than I should.
I've been swimming less than I should, mostly because of the Red Tide.

Lawrence's suitemate put a lot of music onto his computer but didn't take the time to put in the names so they were just track 1, track 2, etc. until Lawrence typed in what he thought the names should be. Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic" was "Gypsy Soul" and John Lennon's "Imagine" was "Lonely People." It's cute.
