Mmm, rest!

I was so in need of this Spring Recess.  Besides teaching on Thursday and Friday, I have just been lazy lazy!  I have been practicing, of course, and I cleaned my entire apartment, but I have also been reading and napping and watching movies.  Amber and I had a nice night on Friday - we went for sushi and then rented Memoirs of a Geisha, which had ( Read more... )

Congrats on everything!! Good luck on your actual recital!

P.S.- I'm trying to decide between Meadowmount, Encore, and Aspen this summer... do you have any recommendations? I got my first choice teachers at all of them but I really want time to practice... I'm kinda leaning towards Encore... what do you think? Thanks so much!

Also, at Aspen would you live on or off-campus? It's alot less expensive to live off, but it's nice to have the security of the meal plan if you live in student housing. Also you can usher concerts and get paid $20 a concert - I just picked the concerts I was going to see anyway! and you can do bowings for the orchestra librarian for $8.00/hr. So there are ways to earn a little extra for spending (if you want to escape cafteria food!)

hey thanks so much for your input! well, im leaning towards Encore because I really want to go to a "practice camp" and I feel that Aspen would be too distracting. It is also very expensive since I obviously didn't get a fellowship. I really want to focus on solo and chamber and to really get my technique solid.

Meadowmount is actually on the bottom of my list now although I'd be studying with Patricia McCarty. At Encore, I'm supposed to study with Bob Vernon which would be awesome! At Aspen, I got Masao Kawasaki but they split the lessons so I'd only have 5 with him and 4 with Catherine Caroll...

I just want a low-key place to relax and practice and focus so I really think Encore would be ideal... it would also be the cheapest. What do you htink about Bob Vernon in comparison to Kawasaki?

thanks again sooo much!

Yes, I really liked it! And I just watched Kiki's Delivery Service. Not exactly mind-blowing, but like really feel-good and nice!

yeah, kiki's and totoro and panda go panda aren't really life-altering, they are just kind of fluffy and fun and good for the whole family. also, if i haven't sat you down and made you watch castle of cagliostro, you need to, its probably one of my favourite miyazaki films ever and it isn't even originally his. i've watched it at least a dozen times and never get tired of it.
