So at the end of last week, I was reviewing with the students the different types of nouns.

"Can anyone give me an example of a compound noun?" I asked the classrom.

Hands shot up.

I call on a student to the left of me.

"Crackhead," he replies.

I hold back some laughter and nod, "yes, how about anyone else?"

I am generally the first person to wake, and so this morning I've been creeping around the house, making a tedious effort not to wake everyone else up. It's amazing how little opportunity I have now to spend time online. I've gone from four years straight, sitting at a desk for a minimum of 8 hours a day surfing the net and checking email to barely 2 hours a day at work behind a desk (and a good portion of that is preparing, grading papers, etc.).
