The Legend of Korra

Avatar was my first real introduction to the fandom experience- I was a lurker, really, but it was the first time I had felt such a burning need to see what others thought- and when it was over, even though it ended at exactly the right time- I always missed it. I'm so glad it's back! I love Korra, and how she's brash and headstrong and impatient, ( Read more... )

it's a cycle isn't it, legend of korra

I love the new series already. I'm such a sucker for world building, and they did a wonderful, believeable job (metal bending police force was crazy cool). I'm not feeling Mako either (not surprised he's got a ton of fan girls already), but I like Bolin's personality more. I'm curious if they'll have a non-bending friend for Korra's group. The benders vs non-benders looks like it'll come up as the big conflict, which I love. It's something that I can realistically see happening in that world. I'm excited to see where the series goes!

I really hope that Korra gets a non-bending friend! The old series did a great job with important non-bending characters like Sokka, and I hope it carries over because it'll highlight the theme really well.

Metalbending police are SO COOL. I really want to see Lin Bei Fong in action.

I never got into fandom with Avatar - I just really loved geeking out to it casually with friends. I never shipped anything in Avatar fandom, but I did love Zuko and Mai. I will totally admit to already being a Mako fangirl even if I don't understand why (hi there moody, jerkish, handsome male character, let me love you). I laughed out loud every time it seemed like they were possibly pushing Korra and him together, but I already suspect I might ship it like burning (which I admit is weird and unnecessary), although part of me hopes they'll subvert a trope or two with that because I loved the previous series if only because it somehow managed to be everything I've ever wanted but still incredibly original.

(and how nice is it to have the female character in an action cartoon a) be the lead and b) not be the 'responsible one'?)

Like I said, everything I've ever wanted, even if I didn't realize I needed it. Her arms are amazing and I love that she's shallow and shows them off.

Also I need icons, stat.

Oh, I'm sorry if it sounded like I was hating on people who like Mako! Browsing the Korra tag on tumblr and seeing some reactions to his character just dug up a lot of old memories of the Zuko/Zutara fangirls for me. As much as I loved the old fandom, it seemed at times like the show should have been 'Zuko: The Guy Who Should Date Katara' and... eugh. Totally didn't mean to come off the way I did, and I apologise.

I also need icons. Preferably of Korra's arms.

Ahahahaha, I totally did not take it that way, so don't worry! I just found it amusing that I was immediately attached the moody, cliche male jerk, and am apparently not alone in that. Also, I didn't want to say it earlier (for fear of offending you), but I avoided Avatar fandom like the plague primarily because Zutara fangirls scared the bejesus out of me. I really liked Zuko's transformation from antagonist to sympathetic antagonist to rebel/cautious ally. I also loved Mai and her general attitude towards him and everything in life, so I've never understood people's insistence on Katara and Zuko. Like, ick, no. Why? Frankly, I've never understood shipping at all in that fandom (they were kids!), so my own reaction of TROLLOL Korra/Mako is amusing me. I honestly hope they have fun with that dynamic instead of making it tropey angst central.

That, uh, reminds me I should get around to watching seasons 2 and 3 of Avatar. *shuffles sheepishly*
