Breaking Away

Nov 28, 2007 16:10

Well, it seems that the three friends who responded to my last entry are right. Now, I am not killing the character of Otto Lontra, foxonian but my involvement in the furry fandom I believe has come to an end. No one should really be surprised since I have hinted at it every now and then. I am keeping Otto for something, but what I have no idea right now. ( Read more... )

I keep Iris as both an online alias and an RPG character. She's essentially me... just a caricature of me, if you will ( ... )

Well, I won't delete all my Otto icons, but I may remove some so I can make some new icons. I have been wanting to anyways. I will probably use them less though. Only for certain purposes.

I used to have the furry is a way of life thought pattern, but thankfully not anymore.

Otto, you seem to be a little closer to the truth, now that you're drawing a clear line between yourself and the flying otter and considering it to be a creature other than yourself. It's a healthy move to make. The otter can serve you better as your friend than as something trying to be one and the same with you.

Come to think of it, I no longer think I know what I'm talking about.

LOL! Well, I can attest to that. I sometimes don't know what I'm talking about. :-P

I drew that line a while back. It's just taken a bit of time for me to get my thoughts together on the subject. It is a healthy move and one I'm the better for making.

A lot of people assume that I'm furry, since I have a fursona and I draw furries and such. But I don't consider myself to be furry. I just draw them. And I happen to have a furry alter-ego of myself that people can easily recognize to me :)

You know, I honestly thought that of you, and I really think that other artists are the same. I just somehow got that vibe from them when I went to AC those two years. It just seemed that the artists just liked to draw more than be deeply involved.

*nods* I've had a lot of people assume I was furry, just because I draw them and I have a fursona/furry alter ego. But I personally don't categorize myself as a furry just because I draw furries and have HollyAnn ;)

I enjoy going to Furry conventions cuz 90% of my friends online are into the furry scene (either minor or major) and it's a good way to hang out with them, as I only get to see them once a year or so. Sometimes I'll wear my HollyAnn tail and ears, as the old saying goes "When in Rome, do what the Romans do!" so it's just for the fun of it. I'll admit I also collect furry art (either as prints or have people draw my characters in my sketchbook or as a conbadge), but again, I still don't think it would be considered furry...Maybe furry-fan, I dunno. It's not a lifestyle for me...more of a hobby, as well as a way of meeting and hanging out with friends :)

You know, I've observed that those who officially "quit furry" are actually announcing they are from that point on separating reality from fantasy, with increased attention to the former.

I had to do a separation from my own character some time ago, too. Pretend is nice, but it's not living.

Exactly, and I think at some point, most in the fandom come to this conclusion, but unfortunately, there are those who take the fantasy way too far.

I separated reality from fantasy quite a ways back. I like reality a bit better.

And even though I didn't comment on your last drawing, I want to say that you did a wonderful job. I really love the detail you did. The fur on the hat and on her looks so real.

Thank you. :)

I look forward to the challenge of the next piece, but I can't express how much the response for this one has helped me.

I agree... I have a lot of friend here that are from meeting them on a Christian furry site, but I myself am not furry. I love Xan, but do have a life far from the purple alicorn.

Heck, I don't even know if she stands upright like XianJaguar drew her, or if she is a taur-like creature, or like Heavy Horse. Hehe =} It is just a fun character either way.

If you change your name, you know I will still be a friend! =D

Oh yes, my life now is far from the white otter. I've even considered making changes to him.

I want to change the name, but I want to make it really good. I have to think on it. ;-)

I really could never understand the "furry" thing. I got into the fandom because I love anthropomorphic art and litrature. I really don't consider myself a "furry" to begin with, myself.
But, for me, the fandom is a mission field. There are so many people in the fandom who are hurting and who need Christ and my heart goes out to them. I guess that's why I want so much to be able to go back to going to conventions again. To mingle with those who think that Christians hate them and find someone who really has no hate but the agape love of Christ for them.

Oh I agree. I've been to two conventions and there is much help needed. My heart goes out to them as well, but I have run into some that just outright reject Jesus. There are those who are hurting. I see it too often on my friends list and I'm sure you do also. I do pray for them.

It is a mission field, but a very tough one. Then again, the whole world is tough and it's not going to get any easier for us. But I know that God can work through anything to get through, even if they reject Him outright. Jesus loves them as He loves everyone.
