Sensus Divinitas

Jun 13, 2006 22:44

In the early morning hours after St. Patrick's day, Tiffany calls me from Toronto. She'd just finished her first day at the Ishskwaday conference - a conference that brought together our Native American brothers and sisters with other Canadians in a sharing of culture,
spirit...and faith.

"I know you'd love it, I think you should be here," she ( Read more... )

your entry brings tears to my eyes. tears for the truth in how our government and society have what you called an ethical deficit. tears for a sense of the power you felt drawn to (to go to the conference, and what you felt while you were there).

i'm assuming that tiffany and yourself are doing quite well, based on that one sentence in this post. i'm referring to your past posts. i'm not sure if we had msn conversations or not, but i do remember talking to you about it briefly.

next year, i hope that we'll be able to go on coffee runs, or just late night/any time of day random conversations whenever you're not too busy. you'll be seeing a little more of me around (hopefully =P)

Low-HANNNNNN :) I love spelling your name phonetically.

Thanks you kindly for yo' post.

I AM EX-PECIALLY HAPPY THAT YOU CHOSE WESTERN. You made a FINE choice, my dear. All bias aside, BE SURE TO APPLY FOR DELAWARE HALL in your residence choices. No, it has nothing to do with the fact that I lived there in first year, and it has nothing to do with the fact that I am going to be a SOPH there (and could be YOUR soph for that matter). It has everything to do with the fact that it is the BEST PLACE. The other ones are of course a ball, but Delaware is rude boi. (that's a good thing)

What are you majoring in...? Let me know whatever questions you have in terms of course selection or what have you.

Alright?

P.S. Yeah, Tiff and I are great. :)

firstly, since when was there an H in my name, phonetically or anything? =P
second, i applied to res a while back. i dont think i listed delaware very near the top, i chose the suites, but i doubt i'll be getting one, seeing as i no longer have a planned roommate, (and i'm actually pretty keen on not rooming with anyone i know.)but yea. we'll see what happens with the lottery.

i'm majoring in Linguistics, but i'm thinking of Criminology as well. so i'll go talk to one of them counsellors on the 29th.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh.

Very interesting, linguistics is something else. Ms. AB said that in her 'next life' she is going to study linguistics. I guess that's conditional on our 'next life' being in the right corner of the world with one percent of the people who actually get to study at University. :( Maybe reincarnation is nice like that, I don't know.

Are you coming to London before the end of June, by any chance?

WE CAN GO CLUBBING a;sldkfjs;jkldf

P.S> WHO ELSE IS COMING TO WESTERN.

Thanks - glad you liked it. ;)

That's sweet that you're going on a native missions trip - people always tell me the best things about their experiences.

YOU'D BETTER GET INTO DELAWARE :)

Oh by the way, your DeviantArt is bloody incredible. It is just something else, and please don't try and shirk this compliment with an: "Oh, it's nothing hee hee."

That is just asking for an online scolding, and we all know how scary THOSE can be. AND YES I WILL TYPE ALL IN CAPS LOCK

beautifully written entry, kevin. i had a friend who did something like that at a reserve once. i'm glad you got to experience that :)

Thanks, Seas.

I haven't actually visited a reserve yet, but it's something I hope to do. This was just a conference held in Toronto.

What did your friend have to say about her experience?

What I see as sometimes being problematic is that whole mentality that one is going to a reserve to 'save those poor people' - altruism with a sort of superiority complex.

That's why the 'missionary model' of aid is so criticized; sometimes the culture that's being visited is so incredibly misunderstood that even the best of intentions end up being ineffective.

Not saying that's what happens on native missions, but it's something I really think we need to be careful about.

What are you up to this summer?

no, i agree with you. often, the "missionary" gets more out of the experience than the people he goes to "save". my friend had a really good experience; she said it helped her appreciate things so much more, just by observing their way of life.

this summer, i'm working at a summer day camp with my church as a camp counselor :) i'm off to wasaga a couple days after prom (which is on tuesday!) and then to boston with my family after that. i'm pretty excited... for the summer and for queen's in september :) but there's no rush.
how about you?

as others have commented, it's very apparent that you always put so much effort into your entries. and it's worth it. they are beautifully written and powerful. this one, especially, since it's something not everyone gets to experience, really gets the idea across. write more.

Thanks homie.

I love writing, but do so too irregularly and everyone generally gets frustrated with me.

"Hello, you haven't updated since August and it is now June."

"Yeah I'll get to it when the rest of my life stops."

I virtually abstained entirely from the net for a few months. Moreso MSN...and wow did time ever free up. Anyway, I feel I'm back to a happy medium, so I guess I'll post again soon!

WHat are you up to this summer?? Your entries are always about the fun you had and the laws you broke during the day, but never about what your plans are. That's FINE, they're fun and make me wish I was breaking laws instead of writing essays about international laws...

...but let me know what's up w/ you.

oh. haha.
don't worry, i'm sure i'll be writing one of those plan-filled entries soon.
but lately it feels like i just don't want to make plans anymore. it feels less risky. there isn't such a high chance of disappointment if you don't plan out everything in your life. but i do have a few parts in my mind that i'd like to see.

big blog coming soon. for sure. and pictures.
