OT4 'verse masterpost

Miss Morstan,

Thank you for another splendid evening. Sorry again for spilling that on your dress. I’m sending along the money to have it fixed, or replaced. I hope I didn’t do too much damage, and I hope you’ll forgive a clumsy oaf. I use up all my coordination on the job; don’t have much to spare by the end of the day.

This probably isn’t proper but you might’ve noticed that I don’t have much of that to spare either, so I’ll say it plain. I’m eager to see you again. I’m always eager to see you. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that we only met a week ago because it seems like you’ve always been right here, tucked in my arm. But maybe that’s because I can’t seem to stop thinking about you.

Now I’d better stop before I really dig myself in deep.

Yours,
G. Lestrade

Must cancel plans. Staying late at Yard. Sure you want to court a copper? First of many missed dinners.

I can make sacrifices for queen and country as well as you even if I'm less a hero. Dinner later as good as dinner tonight.

Miss Morstan,

Well, the rain wasn’t exactly part of my plan, but turned out alright in the end, didn’t it? Of course, I still owe you a proper meal, and I got mud on your dress-honest, I can walk on my own two feet on a normal day-and I nearly had to chase down a thief. But you’re lovely in the rain, and when you laugh, and when you hold my hat for me while I chase criminals. That’s an important characteristic to have for, well, someone who’s going to be around a policeman for a while.

I wouldn’t change today for anything. Plus now I have to take you out again. This time the main activity will be indoors though.

Yours,
G. Lestrade

My Mary,

Can you blame me for wanting to write a letter just so I could start it with ‘my Mary’? Not sure I see what’s so wrong in that, myself.

I haven’t told any of the boys here at the Yard, though a couple have caught me with a smile on my face and they’ve started teasing me about you. You’ll have to meet them sometime, I expect. Hope you won’t find you like one of them better than the one you’ve already got. I’m the shortest one around here, you know. I might be the runt.

Saw Holmes and Watson today, but didn’t tell them either, though it was a bit hard. Holmes probably knows from the way I scratched my nose but he didn’t say anything. Watson definitely suspects. Maybe we can still surprise them, eh?

Do you have a church preference? We’ll have to do this soon, you realize. I’m not sure I can spend much longer coming home to a house that doesn’t have you in it. Oh, that reminds me. I did tell Mrs Patmore. She approves, so there’s a relief.

Yours, as always,
G
