Introspective, possibly-or-possibly-not-agnoist Nathan is such a interesting character. I like the idea that he does have a soul, he's just careful not to show it. Your insight into his character is fascinating. Being a political insider from birth, he probably did become cynical early, so it makes sense that he would see organized religion as kind of a joke, with God being the antithesis of that - something more personal and commonplace.
