Inspired by papilo_luna's post (who I'm not going to link to, because I don't think anyone other than me who reads my LJ can see hers), I was thinking a bit about Amy Pond. She's a really weird character.

Spoiler space in case you haven't watched anything at all of Season 5. I'll not spoil anything that isn't in US pace )

This actually kind of plays into how I am slightly irritated by this impression that I'm getting that nothing is going to get explained about anyone or anything until the very end of the season. I'm sure there's something going on with her beyond the obvious, but other than that? I have no idea. But the problem is that this is a major character, someone you spend a tremendous amount of time with, and to have no idea what her motivations are, week after week after week? It's just making her totally unrelatable. The Doctor is meant to be rather unrelatable, and a mystery. And now his companion is also unrelatable and a mystery. Too much unrelatable mystery! I need something to hang on to here.
Which is why I'm now clinging to Rory. At least him, I understand.

I actually have a decent idea as to her motivations now. I think she is used to people being confused by her but also attracted by her looks, so she focuses her energies into that direction. I'm not very happy with the Amy/Rory relationship because it feels a little too Rose/Mickey to me and we've already done that, but the one thing I'm hoping to see soon is a reason why Amy said yes to marrying him. I'm hoping - for both of their sakes - that it's not just a frustration out of feeling like no one else groks her.
