I must say you should! It's a very, very awesome show, and it really crosses the lines of what the anime stereotypes are. It's much more horror movie than anime, really.

Thank you so much! And yes, I agree with equivalency. Higurashi is such a ... unique anime. I originally thought I wasn't going to like it because the animation isn't really my style. But it's incredibly compelling. It slips between genres really effortlessly, from slice-of-life to really gory horror, to mystery, to fantasy, to science fiction. It also encourages viewers to pay careful attention to details so that they can gradually put the pieces together (which is tough, there are a lot of red herrings).

And yay, your username. :) I'm in my second year of Latin right now and we translated Catullus' Carmen 2 (which I guess is the first sparrow poem? I'm not very familiar with Catullus) a few weeks ago.
