I hope no one gets hard reading this: my motives for posting this entry are purely pragmatic. Since conversation is no accurate gauge, I wanted your written input regarding the best albums of 2004

Wooowwww look who is using the LJ!!! I hope we see more of this!
I'm with you on the Bjork. While I enjoy the Franz Ferdinand album, I don't really think it's that groundbreaking, you know? But I guess it hasn't been the greatest year for music.
As I wrote, Franz Ferdinand will probably go in the reject pile. Some fantastic sexy singles ("Michael" is even better than "Take Me Out") and lots of B-side worthy filler.
Don't get me started on Wilco. However, "Spiders (Kidsmoke)" suggests that Wilco has a future as a Krautrock jam band; clearly Tweedy's been listening to "Sister Ray" a few times.
Now I'm embarrassed. How could I omit my favorite album of the year so far (if not quite the best)? Sonic Youth's "Sonic Nurse," their best since "A Thousand Leaves" if not "Dirty" or even the hallowed "Daydream Nation."
I guess this bumps the Franz Ferdinand off the list.
Stuff to look forward to.....lexanderbluesSeptember 22 2004, 08:32:06 UTC
The awesome Aussie balladeer Nick Cave, who we all know you love so so much, comes out with a double. Hear Nature Boy, it's a worthy single. And with lines like, "Everything’s dissolving, babe, according to plan The sky is on fire, the dead are heaped across the land I went to bed last night and my moral code got jammed I woke up this morning with a Frappucino in my hand" Cave may soon find himself littered among the closet collection I heard about last night. Leonard Cohen's latest. There's a jews harp in some of the tracks. Jews harp + cheesy synth + byron poem = must have cd. Tom Waits latest outing, Real Gone. Andy's keeping it to himself, the prig. Beck is back in the studio, but probably for a spring/summer '05 release. Word is Dylan took a few weeks off for studio time. But the Zimmer-rumor-mill on the net works overtime. Over and out.
