I'm sorry about the house thing, but on the other hand at least your life has been interesting lately! Between the heat and the gas, I'm thinking your building may just be a hazard. They should build you a new fancy one.
I'm also really sorry to hear the bad news about the house. I never really thought about the highs and lows and potential for so many disappointments in the process until recently, as those around me start to take the plunge. It is a big emotional risk to get excited enough about a house that you make an offer, and then have still a good chance that it won't work out! You sound like you have a fantastic attitude about it though. I am confident that you'll find a stunning and cozy house early in 2007! Hugs.

Since I have seen a photo of your Hungry Caterpillar, might I suggest wings that fasten onto your finger-pillar via an adjustable ring-type armature? You could even design the wings on your computer and print them up to make the job easier. And the "ring" could be made from something like floral wire. Wish I was there to help you make it come true.

I'd been thinking something similar, although I think I'm going to try to make a sort of collar out of felt that has a velcro closure. More work right now to make it, but since I need to be able to put it on while hiding my hand inside some sort of cocoon (Allen has a tan drawstring bag from his RenFest days that I think I may try to appropriate) velcro might make that end of the process a little easier.
Printing the wings on the computer is a really good idea, though--I haven't been relishing the idea of the glue and/or sewing that would go into using felt. I wonder if there's a way to still do the felt collar but attach paper wings to it? Hmm.

Ok, so what if you sandwiched the printed paper wings between a couple sheets of lamination. That would make it sturdy enough to allow you to thread the felt collar through a couple of slots (or holes depending on the thickness of the felt collar).

Well...except for the robots. I think we forgot to bring those up in the planning meetings. Dang.
