Hear, hear. As women we all need to do better on this issue (myself included).

Me too. Like, it's an easy ego-boost to say, "I may be fat, but at least I'm not wearing pajama pants in public," or, "I may dress sloppy but not trashy." But it's the junk food of self-esteem -- temporarily satisfying, devoid of nutritional value in the long run. :p

I believe the fashion industry is to blame. When I was younger it took a LOT of effort to buy slutty clothes and fortunately there are still people out there protesting when g-strings are sold in shops for young children. However 'style' and elegance just seems to have gone for the most part. I am glad there are protests about size 0 models but let's face it the role models for girls are not showing average sizes and shapes. No wonder women have terrible self images. It's one of the reasons I love belly dancing - everyone celebrates your moves not your physique.

I've never been elegant or stylish, save for very brief forays on special occasions. :p I've always been very much a jeans and t-shirts type. But I agree that the fashion industry is terrible for girls' and women's self-esteem. And I've been in stores where I couldn't buy shorts because they all had too-short inseams for me -- and those were longer than the apparent standard now!

I wish the aesthetic were different, but I also think it's too easy to blame teenagers for what's out there, and to blame girls for boys' behavior. (Ranging from the posters blaming girls' tank-tops for boys not being able to do well in school to pervasive victim-blaming in regards to sexual violence.) So phooey to all that. :p

Hee!

Apparently a female professor showed up buck naked in England to protest Brexit ("Brexit leaves us naked" was written across her chest). Apparently her colleagues went on with the meeting as if nothing were out of the ordinary. :)

Hmmm. I agree that the body isn't inherently dirty, but I also disapprove of someone who makes others look at their naked selves when those others don't want to. Flashers often progress to more directly violent sexual crimes, as well.

And there are horrifying stories of women who say when they were on the subway in a car with just one other man, he'd be likely to show her his penis (previously hidden behind a newspaper)... and if the car was crowded, she'd be rubbed up against. At age 12 or 13. This is all so gross, and no, random nudists aren't to blame for that, but they should be aware that they live in a society where male nakedness is a) likely to be a threat to women and girls, and b) is used by many men as assault of sorts.

If nudists don't like that they should work on changing the culture so that a naked male body in a public space isn't correctly interpreted as a weapon, because that's not women and girls' fault either.
