I missed posting yesterday, so I am catching up today.

1. What Hogwarts house would you be sorted into?

I don't know. I did read the first one and a half Harry Potter books, but I have absolutely no memory of what the supposed characteristics of the various houses were, except that people in the one with the snake seemed to all be the nasty ( Read more... )

I always thought the Hogwort house thing was a bit to on the nose. It's clear she started the series as very YA and then kinda moved away from that as it went on, getting pretty grimdark and more mature later. I pick and choose from that series for the canon I entertain.

That being said - Ravenclaw for me, as I like the idea of studious yet curious and adventurous for learning.

I remember quite clearly watching the news (Walter Cronkite or Eric Sevareid). They were talking about the Vietnam war, and the screen showed a group of soldiers running down alongside this huge hedge, crouching and dodging. That would have been probably around...1970, when I was four. That image has been in my brain ever since. Probably whey I'm so interested in that period of history. The film/image had that grainy texture, the slightly off colors.....

I suppose she wrote for the same people and they grew up as she was publishing. But there is also that thing in television series, when each season has to top the one before for the size of the big bad.

that grainy texture, the slightly off colors
Very evocative of the times.

My first memory of a historical event is very similar. I remember my dad calling me downstairs to watch the moon landing. I remember him telling me, "This is history." and so I paid attention. I was 5. I'm sure I saw earlier missions but I don't remember them.

That's a good memory to have. I don't think we had a television at that time (we were not living in the UK) but I remember watching later Apollo launches and moon walks.

I am always surprised that people who aren't familiar with boarding schools like Harry Potter (I suppose I'm thinking about Americans)....

Maybe they like it for the exoticism *g* I remember when a childhood friend of mine was about to be sent off to boarding school, we were full of the romantic images of midnight feasts, tuck shops, etc, although I, at least, had never read any of the books that featured boarding school living.
