Movies I thought were better than the book (which, like you, isn't something normal):

Something Wicked This Way Comes. Perhaps it was my youth, but I had read the book before the movie and still loved the movie more. It was a long time ago, but it still sticks in my head.

Call Me By Your Name. The book was a meandering mess IMO, the movie was well done and beautifully shot.

Enola Holmes. The two stories had different narratives (literally, different bad guys). I thought the relationships in the movie were much better portrayed and the mystery was bigger and better wrapped up.

I've not seen any of those films and the only read one of the books, Something Wicked, a long, long time ago. I'll keep an eye out for the films. Thanks for the recs.

I've considered moving for lots of reasons, but election results has never been one of them. Although if I'd been an American over the last four years, my answer to that one might have been different. :)

I envy you your proxmity to Scotland. Sigh. Nobody says it's perfect, but there's much to be said for their current government.

I have seen some very good adaptations of novels. For instance there's a version of Pride and Prejudice that's very good. Of course, it's 6 hours long but so enjoyable.

There are two movies that are better than the book that I can think of off hand. Ready Player One simply because the book was so bad. A better example is The Princess Bride which is mainly because the movie is so good! And the screenplay was written by the author who took out all the parts of the book I disliked and left in all the brilliance.

Would that be the 1990s BBC series, with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth? That was a good adaptation!

I've never read the book of The Princess Bride, but really did enjoy the film, although I was put off borrowing it from my local library for ages because of the picture on the cover of the video box *g*
