There is no way I would describe myself as a royalist. On the whole I prefer the idea of a constitutional monarchy to a political presidency. But I also like the idea of a totally apolitical presidency

Those pictures are lovely. Not a royalist either, but I can barely imagine the sorrow she's feeling at the moment.

My ex- Mother in Law is going through something similar - it's my ex FIL's funeral today, and they've been together for at least sixty years. It's heartbreaking.

Loosing a life partner is such a huge sorrow. My sympathies to your ex-MiL.

I agree, it's difficult not to be touched by the two photos no matter what someone's opinion of the monarchy is.

I find the monarchy irritates me more than it used to. Especially when I see fawning headlines. However that is a cute photo of a long lived marriage.
