In the end, I didn't feel like the Italians deserved to win because of Zidane's surprising lack of class. I just felt sorry for the French team for the misfortune of having someone on their team behave like that.

I was happy to see Italy win, but it's too bad it came down to penalty shots.

I guess part of the reason I wanted France to win is to be a big last hurrah for Zidane, so the fact that he did something so terrible in the second OT of the game really just depleted my enthusiasm for France to win. You're right about the misfortune of the other French players; it's a shame they had to lose in such a manner. It just sucks that a pretty great game ended like that.

I agree. And I always hate to see it come to penalty shots. I'd almost rather see my team lose in regular play than win in penalty shots.

I heard that Zidane's behaviour was partially because the Italian had twisted his nipple while no one was watching or some similar provocation. Not sure if that's accurate, but anyway.
