can someone please tell me what is so brilliant about donnie darko? yes, ive heard all the usual comments about how its so ahead of its time, yadda yadda yadda, but i think someone needs to explain this to me. now i know as a film student im meant to like it and pee my pants when i talk about it, but it just doesnt get me going. but dont get me

Hey, you're entitled to your opinions. Hold them. They are precious. And as soon as you start changing your opinions because someone else seems to hail theirs as greater - you know something is wrong.

Having an opinion of what you like, and don't, and what you love a LOT and just appreciate should shape your creativity, and then - your movies.

i agree with you tiggy, now it's just hyped up junk and people have moved on. although the first time i saw it i was blown away, mainly at just how vulnerable you can be when you're confused. it touches on a lot of subjects but never really preaches anything in particular.

my movie recommendations are-
Napoleon Dynamite - mindless geeky comedy, you gotta see it
Laurel Canyon - awesome drama about a mother who is a record producer and her son
Life Without Me - another drama about a girl dying of a terminal illness and how she copes with it positively

all these are in the video store so get em!

Old Boy.

It's a Korean movie, sometimes hard to find, but it's just awesome. Don't wanna give too much away but it's about a guy who's locked up for 15 years without explanation and then his quest for answers and revenge when he gets out. It's well acted, directed, great score, awesome desperate fight scenes, and still a hint of black comedy in there. If you can find it, watch it, otherwise get Sean Burke to burn you a copy :).
