. . . floods, thunderstorms, torrential rains, hail, blizzards . . . when do we see the fire from the sky and the river turning red? I imagine that the frogs and locusts are frozen solid somewhere with an expression of "What just happened?" on their faces.

In all seriousness, I hope you have an inflatable raft or a canoe. Somehow I doubt that otherwise quite nice new vehicle of yours will be much good as an evacuation device. Something that will keep you afloat til the National Guard gets there...

Actually, my apartment building is above the projected river level, and I can still make it to Misti's place, with some care--the roads are wet and slippery, with water in the ditches for the unwary.

What worries me is if we lose the water supply. The entire city would become untenable if that happens. I understand they're putting up a secondary dike around the water treatment plants at the time I'm typing this. I hope they remember the electrical substations, too...
