Second crest predictions

With all this snow melting away, we've been expecting a second crest on the Red River. This one should be between 38 and 40 feet, according to the National Weather Service, and we can expect it on or about April 18, which is the anniversary of the Grand Forks Flood of '97. I'm dry for the time being. It sounds like the second crest will be lower than the first, so we only have to be concerned about how strong the dikes are rather than how high. I'm also pretty high up, and far enough from the river that the water will hit contingency dikes long before it reaches me.

I will be delighted when this snow is gone and the ground thaws. Life will be much easier when the water has somewhere else to go. It'll also be nice to be able to just drive out somewhere and not worry about whether I'll run into overland flooding.

BTW, it's good to hear from you again--how have you been doing lately?
