Wasn't Moon wonderful? I got to see a screening last month through my local NPR station--I doubt I would have gone to see it based on the preview had I not had the chance to see it for free, but I was really charmed and delighted. There was a Q&A afterward with the director, and he talked a lot about the process of getting made and how he really wanted to get back to solid, character-driven scifi that wasn't about cheap "gotcha!" moments, which I think he did admirably. Also about the challenges Sam Rockwell faced as actor, which, wow, left me with even more respect for the performance.
The one thing I didn't like was the voiceovers at the very end about police getting involved and senate hearings being held--I felt like it ruined the super-creepy feeling the film had that this was pefectly legal and just the way things were done, and also that the original Sam Bell had consented to this. Because I am a geek, I had been anxiously waiting for it to be released here because a) I love sci-fi and b) I love love love Clint Mansell (he is the composer who did the score, he does the score for all of Darren Aronofsky's movies).
I actually liked the ending, but maybe that's because I'm a very "but what happened next! I want to know what happened! I want to know everything!" kind of person, and get childishly frustrated by ambiguous endings. One thing I did REALLY like is that you see/hear the phone call twice but you never actually see if the person she's calling to is real/original Sam. I half-expected that the movie would end with clone!Sam coming face-to-face with older/original!Sam, so I thought the voice-over was a better ending than that, you know?
