You didn't ask me, but I'll assist popgurlie in her absence. Shoelace licorice is a really thin licorice that is softer in texture and comes in long strands. I will defend Red Vines forever in Red Vines vs. Twizzlers argument, but shoelace licorice might be better than either of those.
I no longer eat licorice (it apparently needs gluten to make it taste right?) but always and forever a Red Vines family. Twizzlers have a weird texture. Also, despite seeing Saturday morning TV commercials for them all through my childhood, I had never actually SEEN a Twizzler until I moved to Chicago. So I do think it is a regional thing.
Edited because: I think I told you before about the giant tubs of Red Vines being locked up at the retirement village Safeway by my house. So we know where the middle-aged and elderly of the East Bay stand.

The only worthwhile licorice is cherry shoelace licorice. That, I will eat like sweet, delicious spaghetti.

I'm starting to think the geographic spread of licorice preferences is going to be the result.
though Her Holiness The Pope has informed me that I grew up everywhere, so I should like twizzlers twisted with Red Vines. So we'll see.
