I really want to write Kirk/Spock. And I also find it problematic.

Let me try to explain. )

Yeah, a threesome might well be the way to go. As a matter of fact, although I`ve never written one before, a threesome sounds delightful.

By the by, Sestina Week starts on Monday! I hope to see you there? *tempts*

Threesomes, respectful open relationships, poly groupings... There are a number of options that can remain respectful of her relationship with Spock without requiring contortions or handwaving.

I would caution you, though, if you go with group sex of any kind, that you be careful not to slide into what I see in a lot of three/moresome fic out there, which is where the relationship basically becomes a sandwich, in which one character is the filling, and the other two/more don't actually interact in any romantic way without that person between them. Unless you're setting your characters up as in a triad in which they only interact sexually with the pivot point (and one would assume that would be addressed/set up in the narrative), it always strikes me (as a reader) as disingenuous. ...Anyway. That's more a personal pet peeve than anything else, so... Good luck! ^_^

Thanks for your advice! And sorry it`s taken me so long to respond. I think I was stuck inside a little conceptual box in my head because I traditionally read and write slash. Of course there are a lot more options out there and this is a good chance to get into them.

I will try to avoid sandwiches. Even if `Spock sandwich` is a really fun thing to say.

I second (...third) the threesome option. In fact, as much as I love and adore Spock/Uhura (and I love and adore them a *lot*), I love and adore well-written Kirk/Spock/Uhura *more*. (Kirk/Spock actually comes in a very, *very* distant third in my preferences. *Very* distant. *prepares to be stoned, not the herbaltastic way*)

So...that is my take. :)

It is a good take. I just... mm, it is really making me think, though I don`t know if I`m reaching any conclusions or just spinning my wheels.

I do feel pretty guilty for jumping on the anti-Lana bandwagon way back when. The more I see of female characters getting dismissed and belittled in fandom, the more I realize it`s not the character`s fault.

I'm saying it all over the internet, and I'll say it again here. Reboot K/S is supremely weird when you've been reading about original K/S in academic texts for your lit review. Therefore I'm not exactly reading reboot K/S and am loving when Uhura gets in the mix.

By the way, I have heard of a original Star Trek novelization we both need to own. Price of the Phoenix, I think.

From my research I've found that a remarkable number of novelizations were based off of fic that the author adapted to Make Less Gay.

*raises eyebrow* Fascinating.

(Also: who knew I was such a TOS fangirl. Looking back, I guess it makes sense because I've seen every TOS episode three or four (or eight) times, and not so much with the other series. Weird. I always thought of myself as part of the TNG generation.)

It was really satisfying to see Uhura rise the the level of a real character. And Ha no wonder Kirk could never get off the ground with her. ;-j
