It's been a while...

After my exciting stint of postings, I seem to have drifted away from updating my livejournal. How sad for everyone who was waiting with bated breath to hear what I had to say next... Anyways, it's been a good week and a half since my last post. I've done quite a bit, so I'll try to do a little bit of remembering...

Let's see, there was...

Friday, June 27th - The Night I got Stuck in the Elevator
In the evening, racing_turtle and I went downtown and purchased a new refrigerator from Sears and then went out to eat Pho. After that, she dropped me off at Cap'n Cook's house to help him and his girlfriend, Princess JenFern, finish moving in to their apartment, along with helf from Cap'n Cook's dad - DCook. In case I failed to mention it before, I'm so glad that he's moving out of that apartment. As we hauled the remainder of his crap out of that place, we had to post one person by the moving trucks because there was a large group of rowdy punks loitering in front of the building, doing crack deals. Good fun.

Anyways, we took his stuff to the new place and then headed over to Capitol Hill to move out the rest of Princess JenFern's belongings. Naturally, she had left all of the large heavy objects for us to move out. We headed up the *very* small elevator to her place and began hauling. We loaded a large file cabinet into the corner of the elevator and then went back for more (thinking less trips would be better). I decided that her large metal futon would probably just fit in the elevator along with us, so we packed it in there as well. Because of the way I was loading things into the elevator, I got wedged on all sides between the file cabinet, the wall, the futon and the metal futon frame (picture a very small cage). Finally, Princess JenFern and DCook crammed themselved into the elevator. I figured I'd be ok for the ride down two floors. The doors closed, the elevator started moving, and then it lurched to a halt. Started moving again, then lurched to a halt. After doing this about ten times, I looked up at Princess JenFern - who had a very concerned expression on her face. DCook began hitting buttons, alarms going off, and the elevator just kept lurching.

And then I panicked. The air got thick and too hot to breath. I shoved the leaning futon up against the wall, grabbed the bars of the metal frame and started making a wider area for myself. Things weren't getting better. I started slamming myself back and forth against the walls, trying to make as much room as possible for me. I grabbed my cellphone and looked at it - luckily I still had service. I quickly called Cap'n Cook, who was still on the upper floor in the apartment. I exclaimed to him "Help, man - we're stuck in the elevator and I'm going nuts! Get the super--" I heard a crackle and then I lost the signal and service. Not knowing what else to do, I slumped to the floor and put my head between my legs, thinking maybe that would calm me down a bit. As soon as I hit the floor, I heard a *DING* and the door opened. The fresh air rushed in and gave me new life.

I pushed everything (and everyone) out of the way and ran for the door. I turned around and it turned out that we had only made it down one floor. I politely told Princess JenFern and DCook to have a good trip the rest of the way to the bottom - I took the stairs.

Friday, July 4th - And then there was July 4th
I really wanted to title this one Married to a Midwife.
racing_turtle and I had a lovely morning, going out for the best Mexican Food I've ever had (in White Center, a large international community south of where we live). She decided that with her week off of school, she'd patch up all the holes in the walls to her office and repaint it yellow. After getting it all cleared out, we started taping the windows and trim. We had just pulled out the paint and started edging when she got a phone call from the Midwife she's working with - one of their clients was in labor and she had to run. (Incidentally, this was pretty exciting because it was her first observed birth since she started midwifery school.) So, I spent the remainder of my time that day painting the office for her. I finished late, did the dishes and was about to order some Thai food and watch the fireworks on TV when she called to say she was done! She raced home and picked me up and then we headed out to NikBur's house to watch fireworks. We showed up 5 minutes before they started. All in all, it was a good day.

Monday, July 7th - We did some remodeling
Our new refrigerator arrived and was quickly installed. I'm so happy about it - all that room and it actually works! We finished painting the walls in racing_turtle's office and then tore out the carpet to finish up the room (there were some nice wood floors underneath it all). We found some buried treasure underneath the carpet - and old porn magazine! Who says dreams can't come true?? It looked like it was 5 to 10 years old and focused quite extensively on foot sucking. Not exactly my tastes, but it was found porn, nontheless!

Now I'm trying to figure out what's below the carpet in my office....

Anyways, that's the last week and a half in a nutshell. I just finished a great day of fixing bugs and playing basketball and now it's time to go home to my wife.
