there is a pretty good documentary on this called Silence Broken: Korean Comfort Women. not the best quality documentary, but still very heartbreaking. it's the only documentary addressing the issue and has interviews with former comfort women, japanese scholars who completely deny it ever happened , and those that admit it. i almost cried both times i saw it...and i never cry for any videos.

i've actually seen this. more people should watch it.
hey, you live in dc. do you know what happened to the washington coalition for comfort women issues? i went to soon mi yoo's (one of the authors of Comfort Women Speak: Testimony of Sex Slaves from Japanese Military ) lecture at one of the CUNY schools, and she informed me about it, so i looked into it, and they seem pretty inactive from what i'm seeing. do you know what their deal is?
3. That David Carradine isn't Asian. Neither is Boris Karloff, Peter Sellers, or Mickey Rooney.*
these are all people who played asians on either tv or in movies. david carradine stole bruce lee's role on kung fu. mickey rooney was the "jap" on breakfast at tiffany's.
6. Not to kick sand on tattooed guys missing a pinky on the beach in Hawaii. They are probably yakuza from Japan. For more information, refer to flicks by Beat Takeshi and Seijun Suzuki.*
part of yakuza initiation is to get your pinky finger end segment lopped off. it's a sign of devotion. yakuza, as i'm sure you know, are japanese gangsters. the two names are names of japanese film directors who do films about the yakuza.
40. Charlie and why he don't surf.*
watch apocalypse now.
84. Who Hmong are. There might be one among you.*
hmong are an ethnic group in china and other parts of asia. i dunno how the category works really. i think it's like the han race. or something.
so who are hmongs? i think i'm a han.
and don't hate just because i have a 'life" and i don't sit around watching old movies all day. :p
really though, thanks d00d, for the info.
i believe you're correct. it's a sign of regret, or i think sometimes they do it to show devotion if things aren't totally right. i dunno. silly japanese.
