I thought it was pretty crappy as well. In fact, I switched in the middle and watched Moonlight. I dunno about Dollhouse. It's an interesting concept but seems rather formulaic for Joss.
I'm sorry, I don't know what that means... :/ I'd like to see True Blood too, but I don't have Showtime (or HBO).... I would love to have Showtime for Dexter, too. LOVE Dexter! Perhaps I'll pick up the True Blood Dvds when they come out... at some point.
I have been watching it. I've gotta say, it just does not feel like a Joss show. No snappy dialogue, mediocre over-plot, a few of the background characters are interesting, but don't get enough screentime, and the actors who I know can act for some reason aren't as good as I'd expect.
I'd say last week was good only in comparison to the pilot, which was rather bad. I enjoyed it, largely because I'm a fan of the episode's guest star, but I find that to enjoy the show I have to keep my expectations pretty low.
I agree, it's definitely missing the snappy dialogue and the humor. I didn't think the pilot was terrible, it was certainly better than friday's but it wasn't like other Joss things... Who's the guest star you're talking about?
In the second episode, the client of the week was the guy from The Middleman, which was my favorite show of last year.
Speaking of random TV shows, earlier this week someone pointed me to a dance competition show on MTV, America's Best Dance Crew, and I've been having a lot of fun marathoning through it the entire weekend. The basic premise is hip hop dance teams having to incorporate different things (props, cliche dance moves, magic tricks, etc.) into choreographies, one of the judges is Shane Sparks (who choreographed and judged for SYTYCD), and one of this year's teams has Hok and Dominic from SYT season 3.
I know of Dance Crew, but I never got into it. Dunno why. Whenever I've come across it there's been something else I wanted to watch more, or something. Plus, I get sort of tired of hip hop... I'm not sure I can watch more than a few numbers in a row without getting a little bored. Perhaps I'll tune in some day. I so look forward to SYTYCD's return. :)
I haven't watched since the pilot and quite frankly it saddens me a bit that I'm not feeling like I'm missing anything.
I have the feeling that the hype about Dollhouse was all about, "yeah, let's really play this up because you were screwed about Firefly, Joss, and even if the idea for this show is rocky, we'll still act like it's awesome so that no one treats you badly again. It feels like everyone has made excuses about the show and Joss rewrote it and it feels like it's all a bit forced to me. I'll go back and watch the ones I've missed and I'll give the show a chance but I'm not overly psyched about it.
Interestingly, the thing I said about Joss's shows has come true. After Wash, I decided to not get invested in the characters in Joss's shows. And I had to stop myself from caring about Billy but with this, I'm just completely apathetic so it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I haven't read much recently about Dollhouse, so I'm not sure if people (and not us, obviously) are still rallying behind it and acting like it's the best thing ever. I definitely get the impression, perhaps only from us, that it's not up to Joss's standards, but yes, people are still standing behind it because of how he was treated with Firefly, and because he's Joss and they have faith in his abilities (even if it takes a while to get going). It's interesting to see how people will feel. I should look up more blogs and stuff, but I've got a few other things to do at the moment... even though I'm snowed in and can't get to work today...
I think the reason people are trying to be supportive is because we know what Joss is capable of, and we're hoping against hope that he'll give us a good show, even if all evidence is against it.
Scrolling up, I'm pretty sure Moonlight is no longer being produced, but I watched it when it first aired. What it mostly reminded me of was Forever Knight (of which I had particularly warm memories, perhaps better than the show deserved).
