I think the concept is original/interesting and it captures the student-life on UCI campus quite nicely. Only suggestion is maybe throw in some more colors somewhere (UC colors - blue n' gold?) but yes..well done. I'm kinda surprised you aren't going for a graphic design degree too ^.~
The idea is pretty strong and does a good job communicating student life. I'm really feeling that this design wants to incorporate real objects, though! Illustration can be a powerful medium, but I think its conflicting with the fact that these are real shapshots enveloped in illustrated poloroid frames. I think the whole thing would gel better if you threw the whole mess down onto a real desk, hit it with a directional light and got some real shadows on there! Then you could take it into photoshop and put these snapshots in place of your placeholder poloroids. Maybe because the entirity of the image is stuff thrown onto the desk you could play around with the type in the same way. Cut out paper letters and throw them onto the desk too, or even get a (washable) marker and hand scribble the letters onto the surface.
I'm sorry to be critical, but you've got a great idea here that is begging to be pushed in any way you can!
Thank you :> :> I appreciate you sharing the tricks and ideas you've learned in college. I would have definitely taken your input had I not made the entry 3 hours before it was due XDD Thanks again!
