Last week I walked into the Bank to change some mundane detail about my bank account. Sitting down with an older, Indian banker, I didn't intially expect a pitch about getting a credit card, but once it started, I was pretty convinced I'd built up a sturdy wall against whatever capitalist lies this American pig-dog was about to throw at me. The most prudent financial advice is to never buy anything you can't afford. That used to mean Buy Everything With Cash, and it's still (IMO) solid advice for everything but a house. Having a credit history is pretty much a requirement if you ever want a mortgage, or to finance a car (I think financing cars, even with no interest, is dumb myself, but I ride a bike, so whatever ( ... )

sound advice. i'll probably get a credit card. i'm planning on getting Netflix in the fall and I've got the facilities to make a big block of ice.
