The trip to Gemund.

The trip to Cologne (I'll be using the English spelling because, frankly, I hate hunting for umlauts) was actually pretty uneventful. The 8 and a half hour overseas flight was pretty painless overall. The movies United had were kinda lame and you get really thirsty about 5 hours in, but it went ok.

Not being able to sleep was kinda lame though. ( Read more... )

Cat's doing what I do in airports by putting her feet up on the luggage :)

I'm glad you got a smaller car. We've learned on UK trips that an "upgrade" to a larger car is actually a detriment when you get to exploring regions of the countryside with claustrophobically narrow roadways...

There were some parts of the road that were spectacularly narrow compared to what I'm used to Stateside, but that was mostly construction areas.

The real benefit of the small car was on the roads between Gemund and Aachen. It was mountain roadways and after going through that way the first time became a thoroughly enjoyable drive. I had a lot of fun on those mountain roads! :-)
