It really is terrifying to get stuck in that in-between state (it's happened to me several times). I understand it's the source of many medieval stories about demons and such as well as alien abductions in modern times. I'm sorry you had such a bad dream! Hope you're feeling better. Getting some *good* sleep will help, I promise.

Oh, gosh, several. D: *hugs* I passed out after a while but I'd wake up every now and again. Good thing I was tired enough to fall back to sleep at once. This experience has only reinforced my dislike for sleep. >__> My dreams aren't normally something to look forward to to begin with so the prospect of being stuck there while knowing I'm awake and should be able to escape but can't... I guess I really have to learn to sleep with the lights on from now on. Though I'm sure I'll forget about this eventually. I just need a helluva distraction. A lot of them. :'D

Oh god sleep paralysis. I get those too, but thankfully when I'm about to wake up instead of when I'm about to fall asleep, so it's bright out I JUST CAN'T MOVE. The first time was terrifying in that I thought my body had failed and I was dying /o\

Are you able to fall asleep, and in dream just go NOPE and get the hell out of the dream state when something goes wrong? I've been trying to train myself to do that, but it never works for the scary scary dreams, haha :x

I don't remember ever having this before why is this a thing? I don't want it to be a thing. >__< I think right before the screaming started my brain realised that the dream was going to be so scary that it made me wake up but failed to do the job thoroughly. :'D I've been having nightmares for the longest time so my brain has devised several fail safes. If I don't wake up, I'd either go through a door or travel to someplace else and then, voila, new dream. Some I 'consciously' do, others not. Like you, I do find it hard to go nope at the scarier dreams. >__>
