X-posted from _fcb_, for my own records

Hi all! stickmarionette posted a link to this awesome Luis Martín article in El País about Piquira, and it was so full of fabulous stories that I thought others might like to read it too, so a translation is below! Hope you all enjoy it. (I will say it does end strangely -- I looked because I thought I'd missed the ending ( Read more... )

Ahahahaha GERI. This article is just so fabulous/hilarious/quotable. My favorite bits:

"He really believes that he could beat Nadal, if only his racquet were less shitty." Of course he does.

his God-given self-confidence ("Well, actually I get that from my dad," he clarifies) Someone needs to do an Informe Robinson or something on Joan Piqué. He sounds like quite the personaje.

characteristic modesty SNERK.

she would be Duchess from The Aristocats I laughed for like five minutes. And then concluded that, yes, this is quite accurate.

I can only imagine the sort of shenanigans that Geri's babysitters would have had to deal with. (I can't imagine. But someone seriously should try to get hold of them and get hilarious childhood stories because I bet there are TONS, and I bet they are all SPECTACULAR.)

(Also, just on the technical side: this is a pretty damn good translation. I didn't realize just how LONG it was - based on how few things you asked me, I expected it to be much shorter!)

Oho, do YOU like Piquira too???? :D :D :D
(I bigheart Shaki. And I also bigheart Geri. When I first heard they were dating it was like "OMG YOU ARE KIDDING ME SHE IS SO OLD", but they turned out to be awesome together. I've turned into a believer.)

I first got to hear about Shakira in the late 90s in North Carolina as all the Colombians were crazy about her. At that time, I was like - how have I not heard about her? I love her songs so much! Later, when she exploded into the English speaking world, I still preferred the songs that she did in Spanish over the English ones. She's a great dancer and singer and song writer! I haven't followed her personal life till unread the article you posted. So glad that she's with a man she loves!
