Can you afford it? Do you like it? Does it provide the sort of accommodation you are both looking for/need? Is it in the area you want to live in? How much work needs doing on it? Is it in an area that is likely to stay stable price wise (and hopefully increase in the future)?
Having written all that, I'm assuming that you've got through at least most of that list and there are other problems...
I think if you genuinely like the house, and the attic issues can be overcome it is worth hanging in there for. If the owners are still pissing about, and the attic can't be overcome, then I think you would be well within your rights to walk away. That doesn't help at all, does it?
Is it that there's a major fault with the attic (eg unsafe/not fire safe etc) or is it something that you can work on over time and get as you want in the short-medium term? Attics cost a lot to heat if you want to actually use them as a room, if it's for occasional use and storage then it's not so bad.
If you don't get this house, are there others for sale in the area that will also provide what you're looking for? Are they likely to go up/down in cost in the meantime?
