I was thinking how archaic it still is as I read the title you had. Hell, if priests can do boys, why not just let them do what they want? LOL But seriously, I don't understand why the strictness. Priests are PRIESTS, not God!

A bunch of Catholics were rallying for Fr. Cutie, and that's what some of them said - they're punishing him more than they've punished the pedophile priests.

the response to the priest is infuriating because supposedly falling in love totally negates EVERY good he's done for his community.

I'm sure that god is furious, how DARE he fall in love, who okayed that kind of behavior?

blargh.

I didn't know celibacy was still a Vatican policy. Is it actually an official doctrine? I think I can understand its purpose. Obviously it's meant to enrich the lives of the priests, and not restrict, but for some individuals it can certainly have the opposite effect.

Yes, it's pretty much doctrine. I understand its purpose too, but still I think they should strongly consider removing it.

I'm with you on this. But they're just so darn conservative! I figure it's tough to throw away centuries of tradition, but come on! Like my Theology teacher-a Jesuit, by the way-said, the Church is in a constant state of reinterpreting the truth. Perhaps someday, they'll soon reformulate their stance on this for the better.
