Instagram, schminstagram

Less then 2 minutes ago I was browsing my Instagram. I think that I, like most people, am more addicted to it than I'd like to admit... but I'm getting better, I promise.

But what brought me here, in a sudden necessity to post was my stories timeline. Not mine per se, but of the people I follow. People are getting mad and losing touch with reality ( Read more... )

I just happened to be reading my flist...and your post fit the episode of "Family Guy" I just had the opportunity to witness. I do not watch a lot of FG, but I do often actually get a lot of their jokes (unlike my SO who watches every episode and is a little too young and not as up on the culture gags they do but still laughs). Anyoo, the episode was a about "Streaming Celebrity" and mocked the ludicrousness of their lifestyles and expectations of the followers. I got a kick out of it ( ... )

That's true... I don't think I'd notice if most of the people I follow would stop posting. I'm actually thinking about cleansing my Instagram and only following people that actually add something interesting to my life!

I felt much the same about Facebook: advertising, overt and subliminal, and with no way to get rid of it even with an ad-blocking app (which I have), was just one of the many issues I had with that site. I eventually downloaded all my content from Facebook and ditched it altogether, and I have absolutely no regrets.

Now, I'm having the same thoughts about Instagram. Every time I see one of those comments saying, 'We would like to collab with you' on some pretty girl's picture, what I actually see is 'Come and be a prostitute for us'. Disgusting exploitation is everywhere. Who even gives a toss what label or logo is on an item of clothing or a pair of shoes anyway? How does this improve anyone's worth as a person? It means absolutely nothing.

Right?! I have to be honest and say that I do enjoy Instagram and I believe it can be used in a good way, where people can add interesting content to other people's lives! Facebook though, is getting on my last nerves!!!!

I'm still on Instagram, and thus far I haven't managed to summon up the gumption to delete my account. I really only joined it as a point of contact for a few people that I had no other way of keeping in touch with. Maybe the best idea would be if I trimmed down my contacts-list and kept only those people I joined it to maintain contact with in the first place.

Really, I wish folk would stop being so daft and come over to LiveJournal, where there's actual meaningful communication!

See?! Hypocrisy at its best! That makes me crazy! This and when they say "lots of you are asking me about (blank)" and it's clear that actually no one is asking them anything.

Instagram is a really weird distorted reality. I think it's a weird phenomenon. Influencers don't have these perfect lives yet they pretend to. It's like "Grav3yardGirl." on Youtube. She has all this money and nice cars but her mental health is in shambles. I don't think people are authentic on insta and sometimes it's on accident. I've had people surprised that I struggle with my mental health because I look so happy on instagram.

I think that it's understandable that people look happy on instagram... To showcase happiness is ok, what annoys me is when people end up acting like money and fame are the only way to be happy and successful! 😡
