All:

You'll remember a little further back in my LJ that I had a medieval themed feast (normally held the first weekend after New Years Day). Last night, my wife and I had five guests show up. All in all, a fun evening was had. We'd had the following items to eat:

Sur le Table:
Various breads and cheeses with garlic herb butter or honey butter ( Read more... )

Oh man...that sounds so wonderfully decadent. Um, no, I wouldn't consider such leftovers a bad thing either! Glad to see someone else that appreciates Chaucer's Mead. My ex-wife and I would give it as a gift and then I spotted it YEARS later hanging around the recipient's wine cupboard. :| I'll try it out on the current girlfriend-she's gotta like it. I also read an article on Meads in some major newsweekly years ago and they referred to Chacher's as the "budweiser of meads!" I've tried others and found them weaker and bland.

The trick is, you can't get Chaucer's in Indiana unless you order it online.

My first exposure to the stuff was at a friend's wedding. He'd order ed cases of it in advance, and it's the best stuff I've ever drunk--like drinking liquid honey. I found out how to get it, and normally will order a case of it--or I pick some up once I go to Pennsylvania in the summer months.

It can be had by ordering from Bargetto Winery. Their URL is http://www.bargetto.com.

Cheers,

T-Bob

Oh yeah, we had to use Bargetto's when we lived in Nebraska-I thought they closed down for some reason. Luckily I'm in Seattle now and it's no problem to get. :)

Sounds like it was a great feast! I need to start collecting period recipes. There's just one problem... I've never been a fan of "sweet." I've always loved spicy, bitter, sour, and heavy flavors. I have a feeling I would have been hard pressed to keep my biles in balance, eh?
