I don't buy your argument that these people could have gotten out. How? One-third of the population of New Orleans lived below the poverty line -- that's roughly 150,000 people, disproportionately African-American. They did what they were told -- they went to the SuperDome and the Convention Center. And after the storm no one has gotten help to them. They are desperate -- they are frightened -- and they remember how much assistance the world poured into South Asia after the tsunami.

Why has the Bush Administration refused to permit help from Canada to cross the border? CANADA for God's sake!

Why has the Bush Administrtaion been derelict in responding to the pleas of Governor Blanco for help?

Why is the Republican Party using this disaster as an opportunity to call for permanent elimination of the inheritance tax?

The only plausible answer? They hate this country.
