The kitten and dog are sleeping peacefully near each other one the couch with me as we watch Beckett and take turns exercising. It's a pretty typical night. In about a half hour the kitten's internal clock should click over from "nap" to "mayhem".

I saw a sharp-shinned hawk today perched on a sign in my neighborhood Publix grocery store parking lot. It was not at all shy and I was able to stop just yards from the bird and look into its striking red eyes. I am going to take a little while before going back to work after my dentist's appointment. It's the first time I've been injected with local anesthetic, and my whole face is really numb and weird. It's a good time for a lunch break, but I'm not even sure if I could eat lunch at this point!

I recently discovered a genre of fan fiction worse than slash fiction and fanboy crossover stories. There seems to be a kind of fan fic that takes familiar characters and casts them in a short religious homily. I'm glad to see that Colbert has made a parody of the horrible "Gathering Storm" video. I knew the parody potential was high, and Colbert had done a good job of tapping into it.
