Learning how something works by pressing random buttons is not always a good thing.

For instance, one might decide to see what happens when they hold down the # key on their new phone, and that phone might become locked and demand a password, which one never set in the first place. Suddenly much digging for instruction manuals becomes necessary.

well apparently the hypothetical default in some phones is the last 4 digits of one's phone number.

Try using all 0's...that is generally what the default password is. That is if you ever did this of course.
