Trying to figure things out...

I just returned from an interview to become a teacher in Hawaii even though I don't have a teaching certificate. When I was in college at George Mason I felt so aimless and I really wish I had done better because my grades are coming back to haunt me. Interesting coincidence, about 3 weeks ago I read an article here in the Albany, NY newspaper that detailed how states that were facing severe teacher shortages were recruiting from other states that harbored an abundance of teacher colleges. Specifically, the article mentioned the State of Hawaii recuriting for teachers here in the Capital District. Hawaii was offering relocation pay and cash incentives to lure teachers to Hawaii. However, apparently one problem that they were not overcoming is that even offereing $35,000 a year & benefits (about the same as public school teachers get paid here) was not enough, as the cost of living is much higher in Hawaii, making $35K barely a functional salary. The point of communicating all this is that if you have any interest in teaching in Hawaii and all you'd need is a teaching certification, I would bet Hawaiian state funds that there's some aid available out there for you to pursue that ( ... )

Yes, a teacher's salary doesn't go that far out here, especially when the median price of a home on Maui is $500,000 and there are very few jobs. The other islands can be slightly cheaper. Needless to say, we rent.

"Positive upheaval" is a great way to describe my life. Yes! My temp job ends next week and I'm so glad to be moving on again to the next phase, whatever that may be.
