I must say that it was the first time I was able to watch an entire speech by GWB. He was obviously spending less time alienating his enemies and spending more time worrying about what he thinks is actually best for America.
Whether or not he actually follows through on anything is still up for debate.
exactly my thought. hillary clinton had a great quote about w after the speech. she said something along the lines of how his speech was really in the spirit of bipartisan compromise, but historically that isn't the current administration's favored mode of getting things done. she said "the proof is in the pudding." and i agree: i'll believe it when i see it. just like i'll believe congress actually taking a legitimate stand against the president's "plan" for iraq when they stop threatening and actually withdraw funding.
I only saw bits of it on the news. I'm not sure that it's broadcast here and even if it was, I'm not sure that I could survive listening to GWB for that long!
It was interesting... the news reports have focussed on the responses to the Iraq stuff. There was a very passionate republican senator(?) talking about how all the senators need to be very sure of what they are doing before they send more young people to Iraq.
I found the body language interesting... the report I saw made a point of mentioning the female, democrat speaker of the house looking over Bush's shoulder. It was interesting.
the first female speaker of the house, nancy pelosi. LOVE HER. it was the same old same old. i loved hillary clinton's comments. she said bush has his own "version of reality", and that just cracked me up. he started off with domestic issues, and there wasn't a whole lot new except a tax cut and an attempt to balance the federal budget. HA, i doubt that's going to happen unless we stop sending kids over to the middle east. but hey. can't fault him for not being consistent(ly horrifying).
