Oh, this is wonderful. I love the struggle, Merlin's incredible willpower to deprive himself of what he really wants until he's sure, how you worked Freya in seamlessly, Uther being a jerk but only kind of, Arthur learning to make sacrifices and work for what he wants... it's a splendid read and went by so quickly (even though it's nice and long and must have taken ages!) and I will read this again. ♥
Yes, but Merlin's not really that good at depriving himself, and Arthur's very insistent, which I think is good for all involved, because otherwise it would be a very boring story.
And omg, it took me so long. I'm so glad it's done, except now I feel a little lost. Free time! I forget what I used to do with you.
I'm relatively new to the Merlin fandom, so I've been indoctrinating myself reading the BB stories. From the moment I saw the art and read the summary, I could not wait. It's nearly 4 in the morning and I've read the whole thing. It's just so brilliant. I love the alternative history but with the accurate elements of about the ton, how society viewed sex, and so many other things.
I just adore Arthur's idealism ... how in love he is with the idea of love ... and Merlin's practicality and vulnerabitly. Morgana is quite amazing and I'd love to see Merlin turn Aggravaine and Valiant into toads.
It was the little touches that just drew me in - the language of flowers, the letter ... oh the letters, and the desk.
I just adored this story completely and shall re-read it endlessly.
Thank you! I spent a lot of time researching this and then going to all my friends who are way more studied in this era and being like IS THIS ACCURATE? OH MY GOD. (To which they usually replied "this is fanfiction, why are you worried about accuracy?" and then I fretted some more and google mapped the walking distance of things to make sure it made sense.)
It's as if I ordered my ideal story off a menu and then you delivered it to me. My heart is all in flutters Flutters!! My highlights, in retrospect:
*The almost accidental way they become friends. Poor Arthur and Merlin, they never mean to become each other's BFFs, it's all Uther's fault again! *Arthur deciding Merlin is the most delightful person he knows. My heart can't take the cuteness. *Arthur pining !!!! *The little scene in the club where Merlin made their tea and Arthur divided the cakes and they were OMG SO MARRIED and were not fooling Gawain even a little bit. *The flawlessly-depicted imagery, such as Merlin at the ball holding the globe full of lights, or in the "Puck" outfit with the rolled-up sleeves. I cannot get these images out of my head (not that I wish to, of course) *The drunken letter. Much like Merlin, I feel the need to go back and read that over and over :D
Sorry for gushing. 19th-century gay love makes me stupid with happiness. You're awesome!
Oh no, heart flutters are a srstimes medical condition. Now I feel kind of guilty.
What had me laughing WHILE I WROTE IT was that when they become friends Arthur's all OH I ENJOY ARGUING WITH YOU LET'S BE BESTIES and Merlin's like UGH REALLY but secretly he's like OMG YAAAAAAAY.
And Merlin is the most delightful person EVERYONE knows, truefacts.
