we drove through midnight suburbia, music lowered & conversations minimal, looking for elaborate front lawn displays. we found a few & paused to gaze through the rain-streaked car windows at the giant snowglobes & intricate webs of lights & blinking this-and-that's. for the first time all month, i paid attention & it finally felt like the holidays.
