A woman sits back in her office chair enjoying a momentary lull in the storm. She knows she hasn’t gotten this far by resting on her laurels whenever she gets the chance, though. One satisfied stretch and a glance across the many accolades that hang dispersed among the rich wood-framed family photos and signifiers of position. Not a moment to ( Read more... )

I think we need every part of the biosphere - I'm sure it doesn't need us.

I’m gonna plug Kim Stanley Robinson’s Aurora to you, too! It’s a great meditation on this concept. And still manages not to be entirely unhopeful.

Have you read Kim Stanley Robinson’s Aurora? So good. Also a beautifully done expression of this. Balance is an illusion on smaller scales. Hopefully we haven’t made it an illusion on this one, too.

Thank you! I was in my end-of-break glow mode. Over a week later and that calm rhythm is elusive again.

I agree with many of the opinions put out thus far, that your choice to mix prose with poetry here really worked well. It was pretty cool the way you in person started to fly above the clouds, literally, and then the more grounded, prose-writing voice gave way to that inner poetic voice, which served to probe greater philosophical, or intellectual heights.
A brilliant instance of, I guess what you would call micro/macro divides, being united into a single moment that is, simultaneously, literal & metaphorical.
Ultimately, I thought that the intellectual creativity of "More like a scar where you can still see the ghost of each stitch if you look closely" was awesome!
Really enjoyed this.

Thanks so much! I was definitely coming off of a weekend that was an exercise in occupying different head spaces.

This sounds like an abstraction of your own life, with the Sticky rubber soles pressed tight against varnished sandstone radiating the sun’s brutal heat detail that made me think of you on a climbing excursion in the desert. Always a good weekend trip for you, and definitely a chance to make new friends and to see yourself and your life from a slightly different perspective colored by those new encounters. :)
