Headcanon can be scary! I think, from reading this, though, you've encountered the problem that has plagued writers and RPers and ... everyone for a really long time. A person is far more complex than a summary of their personality can ever be. You have your pieces of canon and you're doing your best to play within those guidelines (which is really all they are, unless you're the creator yourself -- and even then, intratextual logic holds sway). But a person (a character) is really really complex. Playing in fear of being Jossed or mistepping is what a lot of us do (Well, I do it) but as my casts have been telling me. . . it's okay to just. Realize you've done the interpreting you can do and form there it's how it is .-. Also, getting in isn't a fluke ♥
.-.; I am so unhelpful, but! If you ever just wanna blather I know we don't chat a lot, but o/ ♥ ♥ ♥
I have the same exact feeling about portraying Sera when she's not under horrible stress, since she is... pretty much every time we see her, in canon. I can't really say anything except that, while I haven't played .hack, Kuhn seems like a really well-realized and consistent character to me - and you shouldn't feel guilty over using some of your own experience to flesh him out. I think that some human attitudes are universally applied at one point in your life or another.
I really love threading with Kuhn. I hope that you'll talk to some of the people who've played .hack in chan or in the RP in general and ask for concrit before you ever drop him out of insecurity, unless playing him is really messing with you. ♥
(I also think that your own interpretation is fine as long as it's supported? Which yours is? argh argh I'm so unhelpful ♥♥♥)
I think pretty much everyone who rps has at some point run into the argh this isn't a situation from canon I don't know how they'd react AM I DOING IT RIGHT? For whatever it's worth, I think you do an awesome job playing Kuhn. Especially because he does have all those gaps in his backstory (lol Kestrel) and never gets all that much development, but you really do a great job of pulling them together into a coherent person that's recognizably the Kuhn from canon. Maybe throwing him at more people would help? (I have no ulterior motives in thinking his pickup lines are hilarious really. :D) AND IF YOU DROP I WILL BE SAD. AND THEN KICK YOU. AND THEN BE SAD MORE. ♥
You know how much I love you and RPing with you, right? RIGHT? Yes.
Those worries you have, I FEEL THEM SO MUCH. I feel them every single time I play Bat, because there's nothing more frustrating then MASSIVE GAPS. But the things we've talked about feel very real, and you have such a lovely grasp on Kuhn. The canon material gives us glimpses of there being plenty beneath the surface, and as Cielo said....I think you do a wonderful job of piecing together a fully-fleshed and human person from those pieces.
In short, I love him and you like burning. And your dropping would make me SUCH A SAD PANDA.
