The Un-united State of America.

Oct 01, 2013 14:45

As Europeans we are blessed with freedoms that many nations less fortunate than ourselves are being denied. Often we open our borders to welcome those living under dictatorships, those who are being denied the very basic of human rights and those poor souls in the 3rd world who can't afford to put food on the table to feed their families ( Read more... )

This post makes me smile.

Honestly, it's like, WHAT THE HELL ARE THE REPUBLICANS DOING?!?

Anyway, if you are reading this I would like you to know I have a spare room and you are all welcome to crash at my place until this all blows over or until the religious bigots shoot themselves, whichever happens first.

Aw. Thank you; though we may end up being there for a long, long time.

Oh good, whenever I go on any kind of American based rant the minute I press "post" I feel guilty.

The entire mess is completely unfathomable, the American red cross sends medicine and healthcare to all the four corners of the earth yet that basic level of care is being denied there at home.

I think Obama is proving himself to be a very brave man although I doubt America will be brave enough to elect him for a second term.(home of the brave my free European ass!)

You are welcome for as long as it takes! :)

I don't see the post as Anti-American so much as anti-Republican.

I agree with you: it's unbelievable that health care here is so expensive and for some difficult to get. The rest of major industrialized countries have health care, but we try to have just a little bit of health care for people and OMGZ EVIL Socialism destroying America!!! * head desk *

Obama is actually in his second term already. He was first elected back in 2008.

Aw! :D There are days where I think "God, I wish my family hadn't immigrated so far away from Europe 100 years ago!"

Doh! I stayed up all night to watch him be re-elected, I actually meant 3rd term but I realize now that isn't possible right?

It is definitely anti-republican, although I am aware I am preaching to the choir, I'm very confident my LJ friends are not the gun toting, Fox News watching anti-obamacare bigots I like to rant about.

With so many shootings I would venture that America needs social healthcare more than many other industrialized countries.

I have lived in America twice and LOVED it, but I cam very glad to be living here currently.

Honestly, it's like letting 13-year olds run the government.

Also, you neglected to include your address and the nearest bus stop :)

Apparently the American government is currently so conflicted they really can't function. Yet from here it would seem the only thing they are void of is empathy.

Haha! Just head for Amsterdam and ask for the Welsh guy! :) Although all 27 member countries of the European Union offer a certain degree of healthcare if you get off at the wrong bus stop!

If you don't manage to track down your local congressman to complain... just escape to Holland.

It's rubbish here too but our parks and libraries are open! :)

My local House representative is a democrat who is in favor of the Affordable Care Act/Obamacare. Hooray! It is my understanding that this arguing is going on in the House of Representatives. If it makes it to the Senate then I'll have two people to argue with... though probably just one. Missouri has one Democratic Senator and one Republican Senator... so... we'll see. Holland's not out of the running yet! ;)
