I seem to have learned the lessons she was trying to teach in elementary school. I was in a rigorously structured academic course of teachings that always wanted us to know why the writer was writing.

Never knew why it mattered until much later.

I think I slowly came into an awareness of these ideas, myself, rather than getting it from any one teacher. Though if I were to point, it would be to my favorite English teacher in High School. Everyone hated her because she made them work hard and took no nonsense. But I loved her for the high level of education we got from her, and the respect she gave us.
